DRINKING VICHY THERMAL SPA WATER AS A SPA TREATMENT NEEDS TO BE APPROVED BY A DOCTOR'S PRESCRIPTION

5 Vichy thermal spa water springs are drunk as spa treatments providing benefits; they are the Célestins, Chomel, Grande-Grille, Hôpital and Lucas  springs. The treatment requires a Doctor's Prescription. 

• The most widely known of all the thermal spa water springs is the « Source des Célestins » which is a hot spring at 22°C. It takes the name of a monastery of the Order of the Célestins, founded in 1410 by Louis II de Bourbon. This thermal spa water has various properties and health benefits, particularly for digestion. Bottled under the brand name VICHY Célestins, it is a naturally sparkling mineral water, and is drunk at meal time in over 40 countries.

• The « Source thermale Lucas » is a hot spring at 27°C, and was incorporated into the thermal spring water domain by Baron Lucas, the Medical Inspector of the Vichy Spring Waters, and also President of the French Medical Academy. Used in treatments as a beverage, or as an external spray spa treatment for certain skin problems, it is recognised as having anti-inflammatory properties. This explains why this Vichy thermal spa water is also an important ingredient in the cosmetic products of the Vichy Laboratories.
• The « Source thermale de l’Hôpital » is a hot spring at 34°C and surfaces in a gallo-roman period basin. It takes its name from the old hospital in Vichy which was located next to it. This spa water has been available in Pharmacies for a long time, has a sulphury odour, and is used to treat digestive and gastrointestinal problems.
• In the "Hall des Sources", you can see the  43°C hot water spring, the « Source thermale Chomel », bubble to the surface in a concrete well of the gallo-roman period. Of these five thermal spa waters, Chomel naturally contains the most organic silica. It is also used as source of « Vichy mineral salts  » which, when extracted, are used to make Vichy Pastilles.
• Not far away, the « Source thermale de la Grande-Grille » is a hot spring at 39°C, which gets its name, in English "the large grating", from the iron grating used in the past to prevent animals coming to drink the water. At one time it was also bottled.

HYDROTHERAPY SPA TREATMENTS

Excess heat (calories) is recovered from two Vichy thermal spa water springs, Boussange and Antoine, and used to heat the Thermal Spa Centres and a Hotel. A range of exclusive Vichy Thermal Water Treatments are proposed, including the famous «The Original » water shower with a four hand massage, which has been the flagship treatment of the Vichy Thermal Spa resort since 1896.

THE PRODUCTION OF VICHY THERMAL VEGETAL-MINERAL MUD

2 Vichy thermal spa water springs are used to produce Vichy thermal vegetal-mineral mud: the Source Thermale du Dôme and the Source Thermale du Lys. Excess heat (calories) is recovered and used to heat the Vichy Thermal Spa Centres and Hotels.
